Eachine Wizard X220 Pros:

  • The Eachine Wizard X220 is perfect for beginners and entry level pilots. It is shipped stock with a 3S battery. The trend in the FPV drone racing community has gradually shifted to 4S and 5S batteries and more powerful drones. Making some of the great entrys to the market a little too powerful for a beginner pilot. The Eachine Wizard has just the right mix of power and performance.
  • Strong build with durable carbon fiber frame. The classic box frame design has proven its durability over and over again in crashes.
  • This FPV racing drone is easy to tweak and mod. This drone is ideal for custom builders that want to gain experience understanding the components but also want to get into the air quickly.
  • Active and large forum and Facebook support groups. The Eachine Wizard X220 has been on the market for a couple years now. In this time its built up quite a large base of users and experienced pilots. There are great resources online for anyone looking for support on this quadcopter.
  • Moderate price for the quality, spare props, screw set and ready-to-fly FPV racing drone configuration. The X220 is sold as a RTF quadcopter. It is a great deal for an entry level pilot that is looking to build their kit out as it comes with a FlySky I6 remote control, receiver, battery charger and 3S 1500mAh battery. This is a great deal.

Eachine Wizard X220 Cons:

  • The Eachine Wizard does not have any integrated voltage monitoring. Its possible to add in a voltage monitor or beeper to the drone, but since its a RTF this is an unfortunate inconvenience.
  • There is no push button channel switching. This may seem like a nit pick, but anyone that is interested in racing will quickly learn that its convenient to be able to easily change the channels on your FPV racing drone.
  • The 4 x 20 BLHeli_S ESCs are mounted externally on the arms of the X-frame. If you’re an entry level or beginner FPV pilot you will likely crash a lot. The exposed nature of the ESCs on this drone me that you will have a higher likelyhood of damaging them.

Overall Rating

The bottom line is that the Eachine Wizard X220 is one of the best FPV racing drones on the market, especially for the price. The overall design is strong and durable and is recommended for both complete beginners and seasoned veterans. This FPV racing drone is an excellent starter platform; you won’t find a better set of parts for the price. It’s impressively fast and nimble, which is definitely a plus, and the three-blade propellers provide adequate lift even in high winds. Speed and Power

The Eachine Wizard X220 comes with four MN2205 2300Kv brushless motors, each capable of producing 440g maximum thrust each, combining for over 1600g; this is more than enough to launch the drone and keep it aloft. With the combination of the 2300kV motors, 3S battery and stock King Kong props, this drone gets good speed and lift. In fact, this racing drone is so fast; it may take some getting use to for first-timers.

Two of the motors are clockwise (CW) with right-hand threading, and two are counter-clockwise (CCW) with left-hand threading. TIP: For preventing nuts/props from coming loose during flight, pair CW motor with CCW prop and CCW motor with CW prop. (The indications CW and CCW are not which direction the props should move.) This self-tightening configuration will help to ensure fewer issues when flying. The inclined motor base reduces drag while helping to boost speed. The tri-bladed 5″ props give the pilot a more locked in feel when flying. They also give enough power for carrying an action camera

This drone has a high pitch angle, which is great, and it both flies and stops very quickly. With the speed and power you get from this FPV racing drone, you’ll be ready for entry-level racing in no time. The X220 has two flight modes, one a bit more aggressive than the other. However, this best racing drone is made for full speed gate racing and quick turns. It does take practice and skill, but even beginners can learn to fly this fast little machine.

Maneuverability

The Eachine Wizard FPV racing drone is actually super maneuverable as well. Although it may take beginners some practice to get used to the controls, the Wizard X220 gets plenty of speed and lift, as mentioned above, and can be somewhat uncontrollable the first time out. A bit of practice will make perfect, however. It’s programmed to drift on turns, as are all Eachines.

The maneuverability is impressive for such a fast drone. Just FYI, the PID settings are not perfect, so you may want to reprogram with a new setting if you want a more responsive FPV racing drone. With the X-frame, it provides good pitch and roll control as well as predictable flight characteristics. This is particularly important for new pilots, making the process of learning to fly so much easier. The frame configuration also makes this drone perfect for fun flight with tight turns and acrobatics.

Value for Money

As we’ve already mentioned, this drone is moderately priced. The quality is on par with drones costing more, and it’s definitely one of the best racing drones for under $300. This entry-level quadcopter offers exceptional value, performance, and durability, making it “best in class” for the price. The Wizard X220 is impressively fast and maneuverable, making it perfect for both beginning and veteran pilots.

In addition to really getting your money’s worth with this FPV racing drone, it comes with a FlySky I6 remote control, a receiver, a battery charger, a 3S 1500mAh battery, a carbon fiber toolset, an extra set of screws, and a spare set of props as well. With everything this RTF racing drone has to offer, this value for money is really in a class all its own. If you aren’t sure which racing drone to buy, this one should go to the top of your list.

Camera and Video Quality

The adjustable camera on the Eachine Wizard X220 is the perfect camera for an entry level racer. The 700TVL camera is mounted at the front of the frame and has a wide field of vision. This allows you to see the path ahead while also being able to make tight maneuvers confidently as well. In addition, it also maintains modest clarity in low light. Its possible to move the camera in its mounted and adjust the angle. This allows you even more flexibility with a wider range of vision.

To reduce vibrations, the video transmitter is connected to the antenna, which also helps to keep the transmitter safe in case of crashes. For those wishing to record their flight, there’s room for mounting an action camera as well. TIP: Be careful not to weight your quadcopter down too much, especially in the front; it will affect both stability and speed.

Durability

Thanks to a carbon fiber body, this racing drone is both strong and durable. The only parts you may have to worry about replacing are the props, and the Wizard X220 comes with a spare set. The X-frame gives the drone a lighter but stronger frame, increasing flexibility as well. This type of frame removes unnecessary materials, lowering its weight while leaving less to break. It also improves weight distribution, improving the stability and lowering the risk of crashing.

The frame arms are 4mm thick carbon fiber, attaching at the center. This leaves the arms solid and more durable. This drone really shows how much better Eachine is getting at making quality, durable racers. Overall, this racing drone is great for whatever the pilot wants, racing or aerial acrobatics, and will survive any crashed you throw its way.

Conclusion

Its always a good idea to take your time when shopping for a product like an FPV racing drone. Especially if you’re looking for the best racing drone in your budget. The Eachine Wizard X220 is an older product and is starting to get a little outdated in its design and components.
