Eachine Wizard X220S Pros:
- This is an updated version of the popular Eachine Wizard X220. The original drone was highly recommended when it was released. The X220S is no different and is a great drone for beginners or racers on a budget. This upgraded Eachine model provides a bit more power and improves on many of the previous models shortcomings.
- You can purchase this upgraded Eachine Wizard X220S as an RTF package or an ARF package. The RTF package includes everything that you will need in order to get started (except the FPV goggles). The ARF package will come with the quadcopter only.
- Since the Eachine Wizard X220S has been out on the market for a little over a year now, there is plenty of support out in the FPV community on this drone. It is a popular drone that has been reviewed, modded, flown and crashed many times. You will have plenty of experienced fliers to draw on as you fly and maintain the Eachine X220S
- This is a FPV racing drone that is relatively easy to learn how to use. It has great speed and maneuverability for entry level pilots. Fast enough to really throw its weight around on a track, but not so fast that entry level pilots will struggle with keeping it up in the air.
- The box frame design is a dependable classic. All the major components are well housed inside the frame and quite well protected from damage during crashes.
Eachine Wizard X220S Cons:
- The Eachine Wizard X220S does not have a full Carbon Fiber frame. Eachine has listed this frame as a “composite material” frame. Visually it is the same as the previous Wizard but during our reviews of test flight videos we noticed that this frame tended to sustain slightly more damage than the previous full Carbon Fiber frame of the X220.
- The major components of the Eachine X220S are all Eachine branded parts. These parts get the job done, but have been noted to have a slightly higher failure rate than comparable name brand components.
- This FPV racing drone does not have a push button channel switch on its VTX. This is not a major con and more of a gripe on the product. It’s possible to reach into the housing and change channels, but it would be nice if this was a little easier to do.
- If you are looking for a full package that will give you everything that you need to get started, make sure that you don’t opt for the ARF package. If all you are looking for is the quadcopter, then that package is fine. Don’t expect anything like a lipo battery, transmitter or receiver. You can opt for the RTF package, which will provide you with everything that you need. It will cost a bit more money though.
- This is a heavier unit than you might expect. Fully loaded, the copter weighs 561 grams. You can definitely find FPV racing quadcopters that are lighter than this product. That doesn’t mean this unit doesn’t perform well. The weight is just something to keep in mind. Especially if you are thinking of switching to a 5S battery for increased performance as you’ll likely have reduced flight time.
- The stock propellers of the Eachine Wizards are not great. It’s recommended that you swap these out with higher quality props. Its typical to see stress damage and bending on the propellers after just a few flights. There have even been reports of the props failing mid flight at high speeds with 5S batteries installed.

The Eachine Wizard X220S BNF Racing Drone is a great upgrade from a Tiny Whoop or budget FPV drone. Because of its price point, speed and power it is a great unit for someone familiar with flying drones but just starting off with FPV racing. It is not as fast as some of the other drones that made it to our Best FPV racing drone under $300 shortlist, but that shouldn’t downplay the overall function of this drone. You’ll still be able to race all of your competitors; hugging tight turns and zooming over vast landscapes. The camera quality is very good thanks to a Eachine 1179 800TVL CCD camera.
Speed and Power
This Eachine X220S Racing Drone will provide you with plenty of speed to beat your friends and competitors. With the stock Eachine propellers and a 4S battery installed this drone is great in the speed category. This stock configuration will give a beginner racer a good mix of speed and maneuverability. With a 5S battery installed and some more aggressive props this FPV racing drone really starts to shine and begins to compete with some of the top tier racers on the market. We rate this product 7 out of 10 when taking speed and power into consideration.
Maneuverability
Being able to maneuver your drone is very important. This is even more important when you are trying to race a drone at high speeds. You’re going to encounter a lot of obstacles in your way during a race. Consumers have great reviews for this drone when it comes to navigating a set course. This drone has great stopping and starting power. We reviewed plenty of videos of pilots racing and freestyle flying with this drone. It performs admirably. We currently rate the product a 7 out of 10 when it comes to maneuverability.
Value for Money
This is a bit more expensive of a unit than you will find with other starter drones. It’s still pretty affordable when you take into consideration all of the great features that it has. We give this drone a 7 out of 10 when it comes to the value that you get for your money. It’s not the best drone on the market right now, but it is definitely a step up from some of the other cheap products on the market. Don’t expect to race a drone that is around the $100 price point. You want a unit that will hold up well even if you crash your drone during a race. If you can get this drone for under $300 (especially if it is RTF), we recommend grabbing it.
Camera and Video Quality
The Eachine 1179 800TVL CCD camera performs extremely well. It has 2 megapixel resolution. These details provide a very clear image. You’ll be able to easily see where you are going while operating your drone. The camera itself only weighs 11 grams, so this feature doesn’t add much to the overall weight of the drone. We rate the camera 8 out of 10 overall. It’s not the kind of drone you will want to stop to take photos with, but then again, a racing drone isn’t usually used for that purpose.
Durability
One of the features that we loved the most about the Eachine Wizard X220 was how durable the frame was. The X220S has improved on some features that have added overall durability , like moving the arm mounted ESCs into the housing as a 4in1 ESC. But the fact that the frame is not full Carbon Fiber is slightly disappointing. Even with this issue we have with the frame material, we gave this model a 9 out of 10. You’ll be able to crash it now and again, without truly damaging the unit overall. Like with any piece of fragile equipment, you aren’t going to drive your drone straight into a tree (though the UAVFutures review below does just that), but you’ll have this unit around for awhile. Due to the classic box frame design this FPV racing drone is one of the best we’ve seen in a while when it comes to durability.
